FULLY FUNDED MRI SCANNER NOW ACTIVE AT ST JOHN OF GOD MIDLAND PUBLIC HOSPITAL

Labor welcomes the announcement from the Perth Radiological Clinic that the operation of the new MRI licence at St John of God Public Hospital in Midland commenced yesterday.

In May 2018, Labor announced that a Shorten Labor Government will ensure more communities have affordable access to life-saving scans, expanding Medicare-subsidised access to diagnostic imaging in areas where there are shortages, including in Midland.

“It is fantastic to see that all of the hard work by the Perth Radiological Clinic in their campaign to obtain an MRI licence for Midland has paid off”, Senator Sterle said.

“It was clear through our discussions with the Perth Radiological Clinic of how important it is to have access to MRI scanning, particularly in areas away from urban hubs.

“This fully funded MRI licence will allow the Hospital to utilise their MRI scanner which will complement the existing outstanding facilities at St John of God Midland, serving the people of Hasluck and surrounding areas”, said Senator Sterle.

James Martin, Labor's candidate for Hasluck said he had seen firsthand the need to properly fund hospitals, including MRI licences and was pleased at the news of the announcement.

“I would like to congratulate the Perth Radiological Clinic for their advocacy on what is a great announcement for the Midland and wider Hasluck community”, James Martin said.

“Patients who require an MRI will no longer have to worry about travelling far distances in order to access this service. What a great outcome for our community!” said James Martin.

“A few months ago, I had the pleasure of taking Bill Shorten, Leader of the Opposition to visit the St John of God Midland Public Hospital where we toured the facilities and learnt more about the positive impacts an MRI licence would deliver. This is a great win for our community and I would like to congratulate Ms Lenka Psar-McCabe, CEO of the Perth Radiological Clinic and her team for their dedication and commitment to better health outcomes and treatment standards for patients across the eastern corridor, including in Hasluck,” Mr Martin said.
